Iran has rejected calls to hold back on an attack on Israel, increasing fears of an all-out war between the two countries, and the growing fear of other nations getting involved.

Following the contentious killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on 31 July, many hoped international scrutiny would curb Iran’s urge for retribution.

However, the country seems set on retaliating in some capacity, with many experts fearing this could lead to an all-out war.

This comes after leaders of the UK, France and Germany all called on Iran not to attack Israel in retaliation in a joint statement.

The statement read: “They will bear responsibility for actions that jeopardize this opportunity for peace and stability.”

It’s believed that US officials are on “high alert” for possible retaliatory attacks from Iran and Hezbollah following recent killings, prompting the US to strengthen its military presence in the region.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that retaliation will act as a “way to stop crime”, insisting that it’s Iran’s “legal right”.
