Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto said that he was \u201csurprised\u201d and did not see any \u201crationality\u201d in the United States and Israel\u2019s war on Iran, adding that plans to deploy peacekeeping troops under the Board of Peace to Gaza have been temporarily postponed amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all confused and I am saddened, I don\u2019t feel there\u2019s any rationality in this (military campaign against Iran),\u201d he said in an interview with Bloomberg on Saturday (Mar 14) that was published on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The US and Israel launched their most ambitious attacks on Iran in decades on Feb 28, plunging the region into a new conflict as Tehran responded by launching missiles towards other countries in the Gulf.<\/p>\n
Iran had claimed that it had \u201cample evidence\u201d that US bases in their territory were being used to launch attacks.<\/p>\n
Prabowo had described the US-Israel military campaign as an \u201casymmetrical war\u201d in which Iran may \u201cjust have to survive\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian president told Bloomberg that Iranian officials were wary of entering into negotiations with the US to end the conflict.<\/p>\n
\u201cTwice, twice, they felt that basically they had been tricked. That\u2019s what they said,\u201d said Prabowo.<\/p>\n
He also raised concerns about whether the US strategy of bombing Iran could lead to a regime change.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very difficult to conduct these operations just purely from the air,\u201d Prabowo said, adding that it would take \u201cindiscriminate bombing\u201d to achieve such a goal.<\/p>\n
The military campaign has killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who had led the country since 1989.
