The Begums of Bhopal, who ruled from 1861 to 1872, left a lasting legacy in Bhopal. They built several notable structures, including Qaser-e-Sultani Palace, Noor-us-Sabah Palace, Minto Hall, the Edward Museum, and Hamidia Library. After Sultan Jahan abdicated, her son Nawab Hamidullah Khan became the Nawab of Bhopal. To preserve their legacy, the royal family transformed the Jehan Numa Palace, built by Nawab Sultan Jehan Begum and given to General Obaidullah Khan. In 1983, it was opened as a heritage palace hotel, becoming the first in Central India in 2000.
