US Vice President JD Vance said Sunday that talks with Iran failed to reach an agreement, saying he was leaving after putting forward a “final and best offer”.

“We leave here with a very simple proposal, a method of understanding that is our final and best offer. We’ll see if the Iranians accept it,” Vance told reporters after 21 hours of talks in the Pakistani capital Islamabad.

US Vice President JD Vance departed Pakistan on Sunday soon after saying that talks with Iran failed to reach an agreement.

Vance boarded Air Force Two at 7:08 am (0208 GMT) and waved to Pakistani officials from the top of the stairs.

Iranian media said Sunday the truce talks with the United States in Islamabad have ended without reaching an agreement.

“Failure to reach an agreement is attributed to excessive US demands,” Tasnim News Agency said, which is affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iran state media says talks failed over “unreasonable” US demands
“Unreasonable demands” by the United States scuppered talks in Islamabad to end the war in the Middle East, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB said on Sunday.

“The Iranian delegation negotiated continuously and intensively for 21 hours in order to protect the national interests of the Iranian people; despite various initiatives from the Iranian delegation, the unreasonable demands of the American side prevented the progress of the negotiations. Thus the negotiations ended,” IRIB said on Telegram.

In a press conference delivered early Sunday morning from the Serena Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan, Vice President JD Vance announced that Iran has “chosen not to accept our terms.”

“The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement,” Vance said. “And I think that’s bad news for Iran, much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America.”

Vance clarified that the U.S. was unflinching in presenting its red lines during negotiations.

“So we go back to the United States, having not come to an agreement, we’ve made very clear what our red lines are, what things we’re willing to accommodate them on, and what things we’re not willing to accommodate them on,” Vance added. “And we’ve made that as clear as we possibly could, and they have chosen not to accept our terms.”

More information on the negotiations was not provided by the vice president at this time.

“Well, I won’t go into all the details because I don’t want to negotiate in public after we negotiated for 21 hours in private,” Vance said.
